Volunteering

Volunteering opportunities are available at New Seed from time to time. Here is a brief outline which explains what volunteering with NSI may entail and the sort of work and activities you would be involved with. Please note that as a grassroots organization, NSI is constantly trying to make financial ends meet. It is expected that as a volunteer you will be able to cover all your own expenses. NSI does however have an apartment in the centre of Ho, which depending on availability may be rented by NSI volunteers

While Working with New Seed International volunteer responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Working on the Care and Support Programme which provides home-based care for people living with HIV/AIDS. You would initially work along side another NSI volunteer. If your stay lasts longer than four weeks, depending on the individual's experience, you may be able to complete health visits independently.
  • Please note that previous health care experience is needed to work with the Care and Support Programme.

Volunteers will also be needed at The New Seed International Centre in Sokode. Here you may be asked to work in one of three departments:

  • Palliative Care Clinic
  • Nursery
  • Orphanage

Working on the administrative side of NSI involves completing a variety of administrative tasks such as working on the 'Income Generating Businesses' project, which supports people living with HIV/AIDS to earn their own living. Other tasks which could arise include finding sponsors for NSI's upcoming projects, researching local funding possibilities and organizing fundraisers, both in Ghana and in your home country.

Upon arrival a new volunteer will initially have a meeting with Livinus. During this time you would discuss the following:

  • Basic Background Information on New Seed International
    • New Seed International Ghana
    • New Seed International USA
    • Relationship with Solace International
  • Current Projects and status of development, especially work being done at the New Seed International Center in Sokode
  • Review on current HIV/AIDS situation in Ghana and its impact on Ghanaian Culture

You will then discuss:

  • Your personal qualifictations and volunteering experiences
  • Your personal goals for what you want to achieve through your volunteering experience
